We’re excited to welcome everyone to the Solid Series Muay Thai Scrimmage. Thank you for the time, energy, and preparation you’ve put into helping your athletes get ready for this event.

Our goal is to create a safe, organized, and positive environment where students can test their skills, gain experience, and continue growing in the sport of Muay Thai.

Below you’ll find important event information to help the day run smoothly for athletes, coaches, and spectators alike.

Sign in under academy name on arrival. Reminder: a limited number of wristbands are allocated to each team for coaches.

8:00 AM

Doors Open

Doors do not open until 8:00 AM. Please do not arrive earlier — the venue cannot accommodate athletes, coaches, or spectators before this time.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM

Athlete & Coach Check-In

All athletes and coaches must arrive during this window to complete:

Athlete check-in
Weigh-ins (no weight cutting allowed)
Medical verification (if applicable)
Equipment check
Coach/corner credentialing

Coaches are responsible for ensuring their athletes are present, checked in on time, and fully prepared with all required equipment.

We strongly recommend arriving early to avoid delays or last-minute issues.

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Matchmaking Finalization & Event Prep

During this time:

Final bout confirmations will be completed
Match order may be adjusted if needed
Officials and staff will finalize pairings
Athletes can begin warming up and preparing for matches

Please note that bout schedules and match order may change throughout the day depending on event flow and athlete availability.

10:15 AM

Mandatory Rules Meeting

All athletes and coaches are required to attend the rules meeting.

Topics covered will include:

Scrimmage rule set and format
Allowed and prohibited techniques
Clinch and sweep expectations
Safety procedures
Sportsmanship standards
Event flow and ring logistics

This meeting ensures all participants, coaches, and officials share the same expectations before matches begin.

10:45 AM

Wai Kru Demonstration

A traditional Wai Kru demonstration will take place prior to the start of competition.

The Wai Kru is an important cultural tradition in Muay Thai used to show:

Respect to coaches and teachers
Respect to opponents
Respect to the sport and its history

We encourage all participants and spectators to take part in appreciating the cultural side of Muay Thai as part of the event experience.

11:00 AM

First Matches Begin

The first scrimmage bouts will begin at 11:00 AM.

Important notes:

Athletes should remain near the staging area when their division is approaching
Coaches are responsible for ensuring athletes are ready when called
Bout order may shift throughout the event
Good sportsmanship and professionalism are expected from all athletes, coaches, and spectators throughout the day

Open-face headgear (required) — bring your own or borrow limited loaners at the equipment table; unsafe/unsatisfactory personal headgear must be swapped for an approved loaner
Mouthpiece (required)
Groin protection (if applicable)
Cloth hand wraps only — no tape or gauze allowed on hands

Attire

No-Gi shorts or MMA shorts (no pockets, no zippers)
May wear a t-shirt (tucked into shorts), compete shirtless, or wear a sports bra

Youth Athletes

7–17

Ages 11 & Under — No Head Contact (NHC)

12–14 oz gloves and cloth shin guards provided by Solid Series.

Ages 12 & Up — Light Head Contact (LHC)

12–14 oz gloves and cloth shin guards provided by Solid Series. Athletes bring their own headgear, mouthguard, and groin protector.

Provided for All Youth Bouts (NHC & LHC)

Chest protectors (checked out at the equipment table)

Required Equipment

Mouthpiece (required for all athletes)
Groin protection (required for boys; highly recommended for girls)

Required Attire

No-Gi shorts or MMA shorts (no pockets, no zippers), and a t-shirt

The Solid Series Muay Thai Scrimmage is designed as a controlled educational experience that prioritizes athlete development, safety, and technical growth. These matches help athletes gain ring experience, develop composure under pressure, and apply Muay Thai skills in a live environment without the objective of “winning” a bout.

General Format

Every Match Is A Draw.

Every match is officially recorded as a draw
No winners or losers will be announced
The goal of each match is for athletes to complete all 3 rounds and gain as much experience as possible
Athletes are encouraged to display: clean technique, control, composure, and sportsmanship
Officials may stop or pause action at any time for athlete safety or instruction

This is an educational event designed to help athletes gain experience in a Muay Thai competition environment.

Judging & Evaluation

Scored, Not Crowned.

Although no winner is declared, officials will still evaluate athletes using traditional Muay Thai scoring criteria, including:

Balance and posture
Timing and rhythm
Accuracy and clean technique
Ring awareness and composure
Effective defense and control
Proper execution of strikes, clinch work, and sweeps

Important Note

Power, aggression, or attempting to damage an opponent are not prioritized in this format.

Following Each Match

Coaches will receive:

Judges’ scorecards
Technical feedback from officials
Areas of strength and improvement for athlete development

Allowed Techniques

Performed With Control.

Punches to the head and body (including spinning back fists)
Kicks to the head, body, and legs
Knees to the body and legs only — no knees to the head
Controlled clinch work
Legal sweeps and off-balancing techniques performed with proper Muay Thai form

Restricted / Illegal Techniques

For Athlete Safety.

Elbows of any kind
Knees to the head
Oblique kicks directly to the knee joint
Spinning elbows
Leg reaps or wrestling-style takedowns
Slamming, lifting, or dumping without proper Muay Thai technique
Excessive force or uncontrolled striking
Strikes thrown after the referee commands the action to stop

Clinch Expectations

Active & Technical.

Clinch is an important part of Muay Thai and is encouraged during scrimmages when performed properly.

Clinch exchanges must remain active and technical
Stalling or simply holding without offense may be separated by the referee
Athletes should demonstrate posture, balance, positioning, and intentional technique

Sweeps & Throws

Hip Or Thigh, Controlled.

Traditional Muay Thai sweeps and off-balancing techniques are allowed when performed safely and with proper mechanics.

Sweeps should be executed over the hip or thigh
Techniques must remain controlled and technical
Dangerous throws, twisting takedowns, or wrestling-style reaps are prohibited

Safety & Sportsmanship

Highest Priority.

Referees and officials may stop exchanges or entire bouts at their discretion
All participants are expected to represent the values of respect, control, and professionalism

Code of Conduct

Unsportsmanlike conduct from athletes, coaches, or spectators may result in removal from the event. The same standards apply to everyone at a Solid Series event — read the full Code of Conduct.

Coaching Expectations

“Please coach for your athlete and not against the other athlete. We are here to gain experience together.”

All bouts are 3 × 2:00 minute rounds with 1 minute of rest between rounds.

To ensure a safe, respectful, and positive experience for everyone, we ask all participants, coaches, and spectators to uphold the following expectations:

Behavior Expectations

Treat one another with respect at all times
Remember that every person at the event—athletes, coaches, referees, and staff—is a human being deserving of dignity and consideration
Understand that mistakes may happen, and approach them with patience and a willingness to work through them constructively
Set a positive example through your words, tone, and actions

Zero Tolerance

We have a zero tolerance policy for the following:

Verbal abuse, harassment, or intimidation
Aggressive or threatening behavior
Disrespect toward referees or event staff
Ignoring staff direction after being addressed
Any physical altercation outside of sanctioned matches

This policy is in place to ensure clarity and accountability for everyone involved. It is especially important in supporting our referees, staff, and event operations team so they can do their jobs effectively in a safe environment.

Consequences

Failure to meet these expectations may result in:

Verbal reminder or warning
Removal from mat-side or coaching area
Disqualification of the athlete
Removal from the venue (no refund)
Suspension from future Solid Series events

Event staff will enforce these expectations consistently and firmly to maintain a safe, respectful, and well-run event.

Our Commitment

We are committed to creating an environment where athletes can compete, coaches can coach, and staff can operate without fear of mistreatment or disruption. Clear standards—and consistent enforcement—help prevent situations like past incidents involving inappropriate behavior toward event staff or scoring tables.

Respect is the baseline. Anything outside of that will be addressed.

Parking

Free parking is available in four designated lots around Foothills Fieldhouse and the neighboring Weiland Center, accessible from W. Hampden Ave (US‑285).

Please do not park on Independence Street. It is a fire lane and must stay clear at all times. Thank you for respecting our neighbors and parking responsibly.
